Round 1: Rosebud Country Club: September 11th: Tee -off 8:20am: Singles
The first round of Season 22-23 saw a small field of 11 players venture to Rosebud Country Club. With a late morning pull out due to illness the format for the day was changed from 4-Ball to singles which saw many players having to change attitude and game plan on the day. As usual the course was presented in excellent condition, although for Ryan it was a bit sandy, and with cool conditions anything was possible. With Clayton debuting his electric buggy mistakes were expected, and he didn’t disappoint with it occurring before the first group teed off with said buggy trying to mount a cart and him hugging it to try and stop it, perhaps just press the button next time!
With scoring lower than expected it was Girdy who finished the day atop the field with 34 pwa narrowly beating Clayton who finished the day with 33 after his initial buggy issues. With panels separating 3rd placed Joe with 28 points.
The other end of the table was also a battle between two with one player having form in the opening round of the season. Koala and Tommy were left to battle it out with Tommy, who has taken out the trophy first up in seasons past, the eventual winner with 21 points being slightly worse than Koala with 22. Joe can take some credit who by all reports partook in the dark arts to get into Tommy’s head and help Koala no end. It must be noted Mr Numpty will be staying in the family as Barra, who has had the pleasure of his company since last season, handing it onto Tommy.
NTP for the day went to:
4th Girdy, 7th Ryan, 13th Girdy. A poor performance by all players saw no one hit the 11th green.
Cuts:
Girdy 10 → 8
Slides:
Tommy 25→26, Koala 24→25, Winker 27→28
Secret 6 was won by Winker with an outstanding 16 points, with the $22 donated to Men’s Health.
Event Management for the day was run by Girdy and Red, with help from Joe to collect all money before tee-off. Mains of Pulled Pork Rolls produced by Girdy with Red serving up Tiramisu for dessert.
With a short turn around next up is pairs at Bayviews 25th September.
