The big Matchplay day finally arrived after plenty of fanfare and spruiking, by more than a few, in the lead-up.
28 players vying for bragging rights for the day, players were matched up as best we could by the club handicap scale, with the 2 lowest playing against each other etc.
A few guests for the day including Snappy Tom’s, on holiday brother-in-law Joe, new immigrant Andy, Christophe’s brother-in-law Jules and Joe Junior all welcomed for the day.
Ringwood was a new course for the club, which was in good nick and generally well received by the members. 14 separate Matchplay events would be held in conjunction with a stableford event, which would determine the single winner and loser for the day.
The hot conditions proved to be a bit much for some. One of those being Joe, who despite how much he tried to keep his fluids up, somehow couldn’t pull it together. After a bright start, he then proceeded to take a flogging from Snappy Tom to the tune of 5 and 4. This towelling, along with a poor stableford score of 23 points was enough to don the propeller hat and take home the NAGA.
A high scoring day with a number of cards recorded in the 40s would have Ryan fitted with the Tweed after lodging 48 points for the day, which included a 3 for 6 points on one hole, embarrassing for the handicappers, one would think.
But the big showdown between Macster and Bob was where the all the pre-match build up lay and Bob was to quell all doubt early doors, by giving the Macster a severe touch-up and wiping the floor with him with a result of 8 and 6, Macster not winning a hole.

The winners
Due to last month’s no-takers with the Spoon’s offer of $100 for a 2 on a par 3, he generously carried this over to this month and the pool was scooped up and shared by Barra (12th) and Spoon (8th). Other nearest the pins went to Barra (5th), Christophe (16th) and Andy (3rd).
It was the handicapper’s heaven this month, with the most amount of members, 9 cut at one time.
Ryan cut from 26 to 22, Alan 36 to 33, Andy 9 to 7, Dave 24 to 22, Bob 36 to 34, Hughesy 24 to 22, Baby Koala 30 to 29, Clayton 32 to 30 and Tim 36 to 35. Joe managed to ease himself out 3 points from 13 to 16 (nicely done).
