As seems to be standard procedure these days the usual fluctuation of participating members was to consume the organisers in the week leading up to Sundays outing.
A couple of ring-ins in the shape of Barney and Poodle were confirmed attendees in the lead up to take the numbers to 18. However, the pre-match preparation from messr. J. Donaghy would cast out a couple of late Saturday night invitations to big Kev and Gas in the pub, to fill the breach, with the promise of a full English to kick the day off. Needless to say the early morning knock on the door at Joe’s would bear no response and no aroma of cooked bacon wafting out the door, the lads had been truly shafted and a bacon buttie at the Baxter servo was the best they could muster.
On arrival at Carrington it was quickly observed that the Saturday night prep and spilled over and largely affected Sammy who had turned up, a tad worse for wear, in jeans and no golf clubs, although he had managed to find his golf shoes.
The usual 1st tee nonsense was topped off when Deeks pulled off the shot of the day when, on his back swing, Joe tossed in another ball which Deeks caught on the half volley at the same time as he hit his own off the tee….. 2 shots.
The course was in good nick with a few members carding big scores much to the delight of the handicapper, even had the locals come along to watch the Society perform.
The club pro, Spoon was to bring a touch of elegance to the membership with his eloquent style of hosiery
Alas, that was about all he brought as he suffered with an affliction of the ‘shanks’ to post a mere 20 points to carry home the NAGA for the month.
Spoon 20 points
As the big scores reigned in, it would be Tich who would be collecting the goods with an outrageous score of 42 points to not only don the jacket but pick up a lazy 3 shot cut to his handicap, 27 to 24.
Tich 42 points
As the cheers rang round the clubhouse Joe hit Paul 18 to 16 and Snappy Tom 15 to 13 with 2 shots each and dished out 1 to Barney 18 to 17, Andy Mac 25 to 24, Sammy 22 to 21 and Poodle 20 to 19.
Scores that mattered on the day:
Tich 42 points, Snappy Tom 41, Paul 41, Sammy 40, Barney 39, Poodle 39, Andy Mac 38,
Spoon 20.
Nearest the pins:- Deeks (3rd) Snappy Tom (6th) Gas (11th) Stevie (15th) Barney (17th)
In the sore absence of the Ladies thanks to Deeks for sorting the lunch and to Sammy and Sutho for doing the dishes.
