Eagle Ridge – format: 4 ball Ambrose

A return to Eagle Ridge beckoned after a few years to find the course in immaculate condition, the weather was spot on and all that remained were the hard luck stories and the cream to rise to the top.

Before the days play commenced the new initiative of a charity donation each month, mainly towards ‘men’s health related illnesses’ was to start with Andy Mac volunteering to collect this and distribute to the selected charities. Well done to all.

With a few members on leave, a depleted squad of 20 played in a 4 ball best ball format for the day.

Prior to tee-off Spoon donated a bag of Callaway golf balls to be distributed to each player.

The ‘unusual’ tardy arrival of the Koala family, due to Baby Koala rummaging around in his pouch for his long lost golf shoes led to a quick re-shuffle of the batting order and sent an unprepared Girth and his merry men out first.

The battle for the wooden spoon was to go down to the wire between the teams led by Spoon and Snappy Tom. The sitting in the clubhouse waiting for the scores to be tallied proved too much for last month’s winner Spoon, and so bailed until Snappy Tom and co. were confirmed as the losers for the day before being given the all clear to return to headquarters.

But all eyes were on the champions, the familiar faces of Barra, Winker, Stevie and Deeks (c)  donning the jackets, not for the first time this season.

Prizes included sunshades for the cars, stublet holders cram packed with tees, wrist bands, pro v1 balls, also hats, not to mention the extra pro v1s displayed by Barra and Deeks for nearest the pins.

Nearest the pins for the day went to Joe 6th & 8th, Deeks 11th and Barra 17th.

The not-so-pleasant handicappers were to once again bend the guidelines in, what seemed like a bitter call when a team event would deal Deeks and Barra an outrageous 2 shot cut each, but their teammates only the 1 shot. Barra was to lodge a protest on this and before the siren could finish Winker was duly cut another shot. A harsh call perhaps, but Barra did point out that, as the day was over, Winker was no longer in his team and he should cop it just the same, move along nothing to see.
