Baking sunshine would welcome the boys to Amstel for the first game back from the festive season for the second of two marquee events in the clubs calendar, the Garry Buick memorial.
Another mass array of prizes was up for grabs and this would be enough to entice the evergreen Andy Mac senior onto the plane and jet in from Scotland for a guest appearance.
The day would begin full of surprises with the Macster, not only turning up (sober), but with his newest golfing weapon and fashion statement, a very neat pair of “Ray Burns” tried to slip away unnoticed onto the practice putting green to set the radar up for an assault at the title.
As is the usual want of the membership, the opportunity to slam some neat vodka and whisky down one’s neck prior to 8.00 am was too good to pass up. So, after some words from Koala and a special mention to Davie Donaghy it was bottoms up and game on.
Extreme conditions and tees set to the back would make for difficult day on the scorecard. None more so than for the Macster who was in the second group and sitting in the clubhouse with a mere 17 points.
The latest investment just not cutting it.
But all was not lost, because it was the ever reliable Tim who would save ‘Oliver’s Army’ and post a poor 15 points for the round and take home the NAGA.
Tim 15 points
At the business end of the scale, the move from the Spoon to invest in a cart for the day proved a master stroke as he carded a very tidy 36 points playing of a handicap of 10.
Prizes galore it was too, with some very generous donations from a few members, much appreciated, it was back the car up time at headquarters.
Slab of draught, 2 bottles boutique red wine, bottle Chivas Regal, Dan Murphy’s gift voucher, box golf balls, Callaway glove, Callaway towel, Ray Drummond voucher, golfing voucher, drink bottles , hats, fashion accessories to name but a few.
Thanks also to Aileen who came along to present the trophy to Spoon, and generously donated a prize of her own to the winner.
Well done Spoon 36 points
Nearest to the pins went to Snappy Tom (3rd), Sutho (5th), Paul (12th) and Joe (14th) each collecting stublet holders full of the MGC pro v1s.
The handicappers would have their moment in the sun and decided to cut Spoon 2 shots to 8 (not sure if that’s been accepted yet) and moved Tim out 2 shots to 38.
