Flinders – format: Stableford
“Jack Jones Memorial”
The weather was to be the early morning talking point as Jack hasn’t been to generous in this department since we started playing for his perpetual trophy.
Deeks was the current holder of the trophy and was keen to put up a good defence.
Opening the day, as usual, would have Barra welcoming the players and toasting Jack prior to first tee-off.
The weather would fluctuate throughout the day with the threat of much rain at times, although it remained windy the lads would make it back to the clubhouse reasonably dry.
The format would be a stableford competition with the only previso that the ball must be put in the hole as there are “No gimmees in golf”, as was Jack’s catchcry. This wasn’t going to be a high scoring afair as the windy conditions would prove a bit more difficult for some than others.
The club always manages to throw up a few talking points throughout the day and this week proved no different, from the first tee where Tim managed to tee-off through his own legs, one of the Macster’s party pieces from way back, to Bob who had a selection of 5 irons in his bag. The Macster who rattled a tee shot straight into someones house on the 9th. Bob who could only identify his ball by process of elimination, ie ‘is anyone playing a Maxfli?, No?, it must be mine then’. To Joe, who was caught in friendly fire from Hughesy, on the 7th hole taking the full sting of a hook onto the instep rendering his chances as good as gone.
But the conditions were handled best by last years winner Deeks and so, went back to back carding 35 points to take home the trophy once again.
Deeks – 35 points
A bounty of prizes were to be bestowed onto Deeks as a result of this win. These included a golfing gift voucher, bottle of whisky, hat, balls, t-shirt, ball retriever, golf towel, dinner for 2 and much much more.
Some of the prizes were donated by a few members and these gestures were much appreiated with a big thanks to all.
The NAGA was a hotly contested event which went down to the wire with the last 2 groups involving Bob and Tim, however it would Bob who would be re-aquainted with his new friend for the 2nd time this season with a score of 12 points.
Bob – 12 points
Nearest the pins went to Mitch, Alan, Christophe and Deeks who each collected  a prize hat containing a stubbie holder of 3 MGC pro v1 balls and $20.
Deeks, Mitch Alan, Christophe
The handicappers were to make their monthly adjustments and cut Deeks 2 shots to 13 and ease Bob out a further 4 shots to 36.
All in all another great day celebrating the memory of Jack Jones, cheers to everyone involved.
