Pakenham – format: Stableford
First game of the season and the organisers were put under the pump straight away.
With the playing squad reduced to 18 it would 6 teams of 3 to kickstart the season. Alas Baby Koala’s geographical skills let him down again as an hour and a half wasn’t long enough to get to Pakenham and so didn’t front, membership suspended.
So a singles event ensued and with the groups re-drawn it was left to Barra to bring home the goods and don the Harris Tweed with a score of 34 points.
Last season saw the departure of the old NAGA trophy into retirement and a new masterpiece manufactured and donated by Alan Anderson up for grabs.
This was snatched, with both hands by Bob, with a new club and course record, a pitiful and embarrassing tally of 2 points.
Handicapping was ruthless and set the tone early for the upcoming season with Barra getting cut 3 shots, after taking a voluntary cut of 2 prior season opener thus making an adjustment of 5 shots without playing to handicap into 22, on the chin as they say. Deeks was cut 2 shots for managing to fall 4 shots short of playing to his handicap bringing him into 15. Bob was eased out 2 shots to 32, wonder why. Oh that’s right – he’s mingin’.
