Devilbend

Format: Stableford

A depleted squad turned out at Devilbend this month, with the end of season party in Queensland and a couple of late scratchings from (Alf Tupper) Andy Mac who was a marshall in the Melbourne half-marathon, Koala who got his hamstring caught on an overhanging eucalyptus branch while watching cricket and also the Spoon for reasons unknown to the ‘Society’.

The morning began with the tour organisers Deeks and Barra getting the early morning “where the f**k are you?” call from Sutho.

Turns out, Sutho thought daylight savings meant you turned your clocks forward 1 hour every week and so fronted up 2 hours early and so helped the greenskeeper put the flags in the greens for the days events.

It seems quite amazing that no less than 4 players did not know their current handicap and played under the wrong allotted digits. Shame file on this score were Winker, Paul, Baby Koala and the days winner Alan.

As the groups congregated back at the 19th it was ‘cheshire cat’ detail from the clubhouse leader Biggsy, 33 points, who was contemplating going home for a quick shower and change for his first ever fitting and photoshoot with the Harris Tweed. Unfortunetly for the big Cockney it was Heartbreak Hotel as the bubble burst when Alan was to romp home with a very tasty 39 points.

Alan looking very dapper

Alan had been having one of his golfing dreams the night before, where he thought he was half a player and so cut himself 5 shots prior to the day unfolding. but once his card had been straightened out and put back on his numpty handicap of 32, he coasted home by 6 shots, to the disgust of Biggsy.

At the tail end of the card was Tim, who was to pip the early bird Sutho, by 2 shots. It was also noted that last months winning team actually had Tim as a player and was so cut 2 shots, ‘ems the breaks, I guess.

Deeks and Tim

Sutho, who had clearly been awake for too many hours, thought that playing out the water was a good idea

WRONG!!!! managed to score an out on this hole.

Nearest the pins for the day went to Baby Koala, Shug and Alan – each received a McClelland golf Club pro-v-1, very nice.

In the absence of the Pirates of the Caribbean it was left to a reluctant Shug to administer handicap slashings. After much deliberation and growing of Kahunas he moved to bring Alan into 29 and slide the hapless Tim back out to 36, cos he’s mingin’.

Groups for the day were:

Group 1: Tim, Biggsy, Deeks, Baby Koala

Group 2: Winker, Barra, Damo, Sutho

Group 3: Tich, Stevie, Shug, Mitch

Group 4: Snappy Tom, Christophe, Paul, Alan

Another quality outing for the club and a reminder for all players to arrive early for the pre-match toast for Jack Jones on the first, next month.
