This week saw the lads’ first game of the season venture down to the new pastures of Safety Beach Country Club, home turf of our very own favourite Scouser, Stevie Gray.
With much debate in the lead up weeks as to whether the game would be played due to the recent Melbourne deluge, which had the course closed the previous weekend, although it was a tad boggy to say the least, it was game on.
Due to conditions, the format for the day would be changed to 4 ball best ball. Turning up proved to be a bit too much for one of our captains with his pre-match preparation proving to be just not quite on the mark, turning up back at headquarters in his previous nights guise as ‘Jack Sparrow’
Due to J.Sparrows’ non appearance, it was over to Dave to manipulate the rules to his teams benefit and romp home with an unprecedented net score of 47.67, nice work and it was jackets on for the first outing of the season for Dave, Hughesy and Tim and collected the first bounty of prizes of polo shirts, balls and hats.
This remarkable score had sent the handicappers into a spin, who would hesitate no longer in administering a 2 shot cut to each member, nice work from messrs Shug and Sparrow.
The first NAGA of the year was to fall into the hands of the unfortunate team led by Deeks, along side Barra, Clayton and Koala with a net score of 58.375
The day was to unearth a couple of golf shots that sometimes only this club can seem to produce, first of all there was the ‘hole in one’ from Andy Mac. Tee-d off the 14th and holed out straight into the 10th cup. Then, not to be outdone was our residential trick shot expert, Billy Mac, who tee-d up and severely hooked the ball directly over his left shoulder heading straight for a couple of bay windows of a nearby house and somehow managed to hit the small bit of brickwork in the middle of the two. The Macsters round also managed to relieve him of 12 golf balls, costly exercise.
Paul managed to raise the bar in the Spring fashion stakes with the latest trousers from the John Daly label, these strides come with the added feature of a ball marker inside the pocket. Brilliant.
Nearest the pins for the day went to Paul, Shug, Baby Koala, Hughesy, Snappy Tom and Tim
Teams for the day were:
Team 1: Shug, Baby Koala, Stevie, Biggsy
