Season 08-09 started at Pakenham last week with a few changes to the club membership this year. New inductees and subs include Paul McConalogue, Ryan Lee, Biggsy, Barney and Taffy all welcome.
The format for the first outing was, as usual, Ambrose.
With the 2nd in charge, Deeks, off sunning himself in Europe it was left to the Barra to assume full control.
With the usual messing around with call offs and call back ons in the week leading up to said day it was a daily juggle of teams and handicaps for the organiser, eventually on the day, the final count was 21 and so with a speedy re-draw we were sent out in 7 teams of 3. With the course reasonably quite this proved to be to our advantage as we raced round the course in about 3 and half hours, except the last group of Spoon, Billy Mac and Ryan who were clocked around the 4 and a quarter mark, with the Spoon showing the signs of a beaten boxer due to said playing partners, (or maybe the 8 stubblets yer man had been driven to consume during their jaunt around the course.
With the Harris Tweed jackets out of the dry cleaners and back up for honours it was good to see one of the captains taking things seriously
7.55 am in the car park – Tee-ing off at 8.00 am
This seemed to have the desired affect on his charges of Winker and Tim and so came in with a net score of 71 (which was officially minging) and thus picking up the first NAGA of the season
The winning group of the day consisted of George and Bob captained by Mitch, this group set off in the only cart used on the day seating George and Bob, this arrangement only lasted a few holes till Mitch pulled rank and booted the effervescent Bob out of the Rav 4 and climbed aboard himself, proving to be the masterstroke required to don the HT’s for the day.
‘Nearest The Pin’ winners for the day were Spoon x2, Tich, Clayton and Shug
Thanks must go to the Ladies for coming along for the new season and serving us our lunches, much appreciated.
Spoon was so overwhelmed he thought he was a bit over-dressed for the occasion
