Flinders

Sunday, 2nd November, 2008

This month had the lads gather at Flinders for the inaugural Jack Jones day. The first singles event of the season was to be stableford with the simple stipulation from Jack himself “nae gimees in golf”. The day began with a few words from Andy Mac and a wee ‘bottoms up’ for Jack on the first tee, good start! Two faces from the past were invited along to fill a couple of spots in the shape of big Alex and Terry Allsopp.

Jack looked after the lads with the weather (unlike last year) and it was left to Clayton to come up with the goods in the form of some quality golf and a score of 40 points to take home the fine trophy kindly donated by Jack’s wife Wilma. Along with said trophy was (of course) the Harris Tweed and the possibly the biggest show bag handed out by the McClelland G.C. which included an umbrella, sweatshirt, polo shirt, bot. Glenfiddich, keying, hats, scarves, golf balls and more, thanks to all who donated.

Clayton, a very proud and popular winner !

One of our returnees Terry managed to sew up the NAGA with considerable ease, much to Billy Mac’s merriment, with a grand total of 17 points. Unfortunately the brains tryst that is Billy Mac and Tim between them managed to leave the NAGA in the back of the car somewhere.

Terry – sans trophy

Nearest the Pin awards went to Joe (12th), Snappy Tom (14th) and Paul (17th) no takers on the 3rd and 9th.

Next month we will be at Devilbend with the days format to be stableford pairs with the two scores being added together.

Special mention to Jimmy Miller who is struggling to get out with us due to his ongoing back trouble, our thoughts are with him and hopefully it’s not too long before he is back with us.
