Devilbend

Sunday, 7th December, 2008

Last game of the calendar year had the lads converge at Devilbend. Following another balls up from the pro-shop meant a few of our members couldn’t venture out due to a ‘mishap’ with the allocation of their carts.

The day began with one of our newest members, Dave Moffat, handing out the mornings paper to each and everyone of us with the instructions to open at page 22 of the sports section, there for all to see was the previous days exploits at Rossdale where he cleaned up, to take out the B grade with a net score of 67. Congratulations Dave.

The troops were noticeably impressed with Dave’s performance, none more so than his partner for the day Stevie Gray, who, on Dave’s request asked if the Harris Tweeds were on site as they may as well put them on prior to tee-ing off.

Due to the call-offs a couple of groups had to be re-shuffled, the main benefactors from this were the pairing of Winker and Damien, who, with their unusually high handicaps managed to make a mockery of the handicappers and wiped the floor with the other members including this weeks man on form, flavour of the week, the un-backable, Dave Moffat and partner Stevie Gray.

Nearest the pins for the day were Deeks, Hughie, Koala and Christophe.

At the bottom end of the awards, the team of………………Dave Moffat and Stevie Gray would be left holding the NAGA. With the mornings expectations so high, it was too much for Stevie to take and so he and refused to attend the presentation and photo shoot leaving the collection of said trophy to Dave.

This result catapulted the McClelland Golf Club into the high echelons of social golf, with a guy who wins B grade at Rossdale, then the next day finish stone motherless with a combined score of 44 points, (Damien scored 42 points alone). The days events resulted with the Macster having a quiet word with Dave about membership fees at Rossdale as he quite fancied his chances down there.

Handicap slashings seemed to be rather tame with Damien being cut to 3 to 24, Winker just the ‘1’ to 27, the very joyous Clayton escaping with ‘1’ to 31 and Tich ‘1’ to 33, these kind cuts from Mr and Mrs Claus, compliments of the season. Thanks also to the ladies in the kitchen for volunteering their time this year, fantastic effort.

With the next outing not until 25th January at Amstel, The MGC would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas with a safe and happy new year.
