Cape Schanck

Sunday, 19th April, 2009

April saw the lads converge on the Cape Schank resort on the peninsula and superb condition it was in, with carts booked for all, although fortunate for some there was no random breath testing on course. Teams of two, playing best ball the format of the day.

The mild heckling, which sometimes creeps in on the first tee, was to be too much for some with the ladies tee proving to be a bridge too far for a few which included the entire Mitchell clan, who accumulated a total of 30 metres combined.

The carts proved to be both a bonus and an obstacle for some, firstly Sutho who managed to hit his ball into Dave’s moving cart and he duly escorted his ball up the fairway towards the green, then there was Alan who teed-off, smashed his ball into the back of his own cart 15 metres in front of him only to see his ball fly over his head and land 20 metres behind him. This turned out to be the catalyst for Alan and his playing partner Terry Als… Andy Mac who comfortably took home this months NAGA award, with a net score of 75. It was first thought that this pair were attempting to blow their handicaps out but it turned out they were just minging.

Alan and Andy Mac

Incidentally after spending the past month at Cape Fear the NAGA trophy was returned to the club with a makeover from Christophe di Niro.

Winners of the coveted Harris Tweeds this month went to Vic and Ryan with a net score of 63.5, with Ryan venturing onto the winners dais for the 2nd month in a row, it was time for the handicappers to move in. As Joe had been slashing in freefall for the past couple of months he put his partner Shug on the spot to deliberate by himself. Shug was to administer a 2 shot cut to Ryan down to 25 and a 1 shot cut to the Spoon to 10, then out of leftfield he announced the first slider of the year moving Tim out 2 shots to join the Macster on 36.

It was also noted that as Tim and Billy Mac were drawn in the same group for the next game, the Macster was unfolding some of the green stuff out of his wallet to launch a head to head challenge against the floundering Tim

‘My Baby’ without Vic

5 nearest the pins went to Snappy Tom, Clayton, Ryan, Dave and Christophe, who all received the mandatory ‘McClelland pro-v1’ ball each.

Next game is the Garry Buick Memorial which is a special day in the clubs calendar, so could all members make the effort to be there nice and early so we can have a toast on the first tee before we begin.

Last game of the season and ‘hunners o prizes’ up for grabs this month, possibly the biggest cache ever.

It was also noted that it will be the Barra’s birthday next golf day so best wishes and prizes to him.
