The 07/08 season got under way on Sunday, 3rd Sept. at the magnificent Moonah Links.
With most of the crew gathered on time and a couple of members still in the land of nod having to receive an early/late phone call to stir them into action, the troops were into the golf carts and escorted to their relevant tees for a shotgun start, except for Andy Mac and Gaz who struggled with the concept of follow the leader and took an immediate right turn into the car park did a few laps, lost the rest of the group and had to be personally taken out by a different organiser. This had a roll on effect towards the rest of their team, Gav and Billy Mac, as at the end of play they took another wrong turn to exit the course and ended up bidding for property at a real estate auction in Rosebud, but 30 minutes after everyone else finished they made it back to the clubhouse safe and sound.
The format of 4 ball ambrose seemed to suit the rusty participants, with the constant view of the McClelland search party cutting a familiar look across the plains of the peninsula throughout the day, to say we deposited a few golf balls around the course would be a fair assessment.
With much spruiking around the traps in the weeks leading up to the first outing it would appear some people had given themselves a bit too much to live up to.
The team of Snappy Tom, Damien and Alan had to play with one man down but this did little to curtail their quest to wear the first Harris Tweed of the season and thus came home with the goods.
At the other end of the scale the NAGA (not a golfers ar@#*ole) trophy was presented to the team led by Deeks of Hughie, Clayton and Koala, it would appear a certain lack of team harmony may have contributed to this.
