Flinders

Sunday, 4th November, 2007

This months outing to Flinders turned out to be not much more than that, just an outing, with torrential wind and rain from the time of arrival it was voted that the lads would not be venturing out onto said course.

There was also a touch of sadness attached to the day as one of our members, Jack Jones, lost his battle with illness and passed away on Friday, 26th October.
Early on Sunday morning the family took Jack’s ashes and scattered them on his favourite course, Flinders, up where the views are quite stunning.

Despite not being able to get out onto the course the MGC gathered to send Jack off, after some kind words from Andy Mac the club proposed a toast, then held a silence which flowed into a rousing round of applause and finished off with the sound of the bagpipes. If that wasn’t enough all the lads drove up to where Jack now lies, lined up and down the fairway, and like a 23 gun salute, each fired a golf ball into the ocean.
The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to the club for their wonderful send off, it is truly comforting to know he was so well thought of.
Quite an emotional day! I’m sure Jack will now be sitting with Garry Buick telling each other how good they were.
