Sandringham

Round 4: December 3rd @ Sandringham: Ambrose Pairs

To close out 2023 the MGC headed back to Sandringham, a course we haven’t played for some years. The layout of the course had dramatically changed to as shorter course with no Par 5’s and 7 Par 3’s and given the ability to choose tee colour Hubba elected to go off the shorter orange (ladies) tees. This proved to be fortuitous for any pair with a shorter hitter.

As is customary for the MGC any birthday is celebrated, none more so than a milestone. On this day it was Ryan’s turn, who lifted to bat to celebrate his half century. Congratulations Ryan. To celebrate he received a Drummond voucher so he can get fitted for a new driver and stop buying shit clubs of the internet.

As is the case before every golf day teams are singled out as favourites for winner and NAGA and the pairs with the highest handicaps were expected to battle it out at the bottom end of the table. They did feature but at different ends. The battle for NAGA was a family affair and seemingly decided over a couple of gum leaves and lengthy debate in the carpark. After the eucalyptus high wore off it was decided that the team of Baby Koala and Sutho would have the privilege of wearing the unicorns next round, with a final score 69.75 narrowly beating out Stork and Koala on 69.5. Given the course had a Par of 65 and the remaining pairs coming in at Par or below this was a below average return for the day.

The difference at the top of the table wasn’t so close, with 3.25 strokes separating 1st and 2nd. With a final score of nett 58 it was the pair of Red and Clayton that were fitted for the jackets, beating out Billy A and Scott with 61.25. Solid team game of golf with nothing much to report here except for a quick tree break on the 4th for Clayton and Girdy who both needed to wipe before they got back on the course.
