Lang Lang

Round 2: Lang Lang: Format 4-Ball: 8:00am Tee-Off

Round 2 saw the MGC make the longest trek of the season to Lang Lang but given the condition and layout of the course it is always worth it. Given the extreme heat of Grand Final day that saw the mighty Pies victorious over Brisbane, a cool start to the day was welcome, for those that may have celebrated a bit hard anyway. And a day that couldn’t decide if it was going to be warm, cold, overcast or raining, most of the golf followed suit.

To start, let’s look at NAGA which turned out to be a one-horse race. Much like the weather the eventual loser started hot and cooled off towards the end. It was the team with the biggest handicap that couldn’t bring it together on the day and finished a clear 5 shots off the stick and 3.5 overall clear of 3rd place. As the saying goes you should never birdie the first, and the team succumbed to this theory. This was a true team effort with no player able to put their hand up and say they played well, with Captain Red rightly taking Mr Numpty home, with Mitch, Taffy and Billy Mac having the pleasure of the unicorns for round 3.

The top of the table followed a similar trend, with winners Girdy, Stork, Koala and Sutho coming in 5 under the card but due to the shortest handicap finished 2.875 clear of second placed Joe, Ryan, Tommy and Clayton. A stellar round that was highlighted by the first eagle seen in MGC history on the par 5, 7th. Well played boys. For their efforts, the team took home bucket hats and umbrellas supplied by major sponsor Mitre 10 along with a bag of tees. Well played boys and I’m sure you will make good use of your prizes.
