Round 8: Rosebud CC. 4 Ball. April 17th.
The penultimate round for Season 2021-22 saw the MGC take on the challenging Rosebud Country Club North Course. A special thanks needs to be extended to Hubba who was able to organise a price of $55 for such a great course. What greeted the waiting players was a beautiful day which would hopefully lead to some good golf being played and close scoring to settle the day, which was exactly what transpired as less than 2 shots separated first and last place.
Although it was a hard slog for the organisers pre-game, with late pull outs and the possibility of forfeiting the planned team event format for singles to accommodate reduced numbers, a group of 17 players assembled to take on the course, which saw a red faced Sammy sent on his way as the replacement he organised for himself had in fact turned up! Possibly the reason Sammy hasn’t been invited to join the committee. On that note a special mention has to be made to Girdy who was left with the unenviable task of finding fill ins at very short notice.
With close scoring from first to last it was no surprise that it was close between the top 2 teams, with short priced favourite Team 4 consisting of Joe, Paul Mc, Ryan and Mitch taking the win with a score of 59.125 narrowly beating Team 1 of Girdy, Barra, Baby Koala and Clayton who came in with a score of 59.75. With the win being particularly hard for Barra how was quoted as saying “get the jackets” when the teams were drawn.
This left Teams 2 and 3 to fight it out for the new Gobbler hats and the honour of taking home Mr Numpty. Team 3 consisting of Deeks, Chris, Scott and Koala used all of Deeks’ course knowledge to get them over the line to relegate Team 3 of Billy A, Red, Taffy and Sutho to last place, with scores of 61.375 and 61.5 respectively. This may have been perpetuated by the disharmony within Team 3 which was described as a rudderless ship at the conclusion of the day, with the Captain continuing this with a reluctance to accept any responsibility and take ownership of Mr Numpty.
As has started to become an unwelcome occurrence with MGC outings we had another incident of a player having a mishap on course, with one elder statesman “only going for a piss” and having an unusually long toilet break with the after effects there for all to see when trying to prove his innocence. At least he finished the round with the same number of socks he started with this time.
Event Management for the day was a slightly different affair with entrée supplied by Winker and prepared by Ryan and Clayton, mains of pizza and chips supplied by Sammy and dessert of Keylime Pie, cream, ice cream and fruit supplied by Koala. Thanks to all that helped out on the day to get this done.
