Round 6: Churchill Park: Pairs: February 13th

With a hot day forecast a later than expected tee off wasn’t ideal and would be seen to have a detrimental effect on the groups teeing off last. Strong winds coupled with the tight dog leg Churchill Park course meant accuracy was the name of the day for Round 6. With the extended wait before the first groups hit off favouritism for both winner and NAGA were identified and at the end of the day the 2 teams identified would indeed be lifting a trophy. Given the marque event next round at Cape Schanck would tactical play come into play.

Touted as early favourites to take home NAGA, it was Team 1 of Bob and Billy Mac, who took full advantage of the cooler temperature earlier in the day, who would be clear winners on the day with a Nett score of 68.75, beating second placed Team 3, Girdy and Sammy with 70.25, a surprise as one of the group was seen to forget his clubs on the 10th tee. Not the best result for Billy Mac as he now gets a cut and could well be handicapped out of the Andy Mac Day at Cape Schanck. Although the team captain couldn’t make it back for the presentations, a proxy was needed for the photo, luckily enough Bob’s doppelgänger was available.

The race for NAGA was a much tighter affair, with 0.5 separating the bottom 4 teams, with perhaps the lure of a handicap slide for the Andy Mac day having some bearing on results. With the bottom 2 teams coming in with a Nett score of 72.25 a countback was needed to find the eventual winner, with it coming down to the final 3 holes to decide the NAGA for the day. With early indications both teams would be in the finish at the other end of the table it was Team 5 of Red and Mitch narrowly beating out Team 6 of Hubba and Baby Koala. With conditions deteriorating as the day progressed it wasn’t surprising that the last 2 teams hitting off found themselves at the bottom of the pile.
