Round 4: January 2nd: Bayviews: 4 Ball
Due to the condensing of the season a game was scheduled over the New Year period which threw up a few challenges for the organisers. With several players unavailable and the inevitable late pull outs, subs from far and wide were drafted in to complete the 4 teams needed for the 4-ball format of the day and what a day it was.
Given the hot weather and hilly terrain a tough day was expected for those not lucky enough to have booked a cart. With 3 evenly matched teams and one super group the finish was expected to be a close affair, and with only 4 points separating all 4 teams it was but the order was a major surprise.
Team 4 consisting of Hodgey, Spoon, Biggsy and Bob were the early favourites to take out the win, but this proved to be far from the case. Even with a low handicap of 7.0 the talent on offer was expected shine through and the victory almost guaranteed. At the end of the day, they did walk away with a trophy, but a net score of 57 saw them take home Mr Numpty and the twirlies that were presented to them back at the club. It is worth noting that Bob, who previously was unavailable, was able to rework his schedule and shoehorn himself into the team once he saw the talent on display.
A clear winner came through with Team 3 consisting of Billy A, Mitch, Taffy and Big Kev getting the win with a net score of 53.25. Team 1 of Red, Ryan, Dave B and Sutho came in 2nd with 55.625, followed by Team 2, Girdy, Barra, Koala and Clayton coming in 3rd with a respectable 56.125. For there days work they collected the jackets, Mitre 10 shirt and a sleave of genuine McClelland Pro v1s.
On presentation of the jackets Big Kev, perhaps thinking he was back at his playing weight, made the misguided judgment of doing up the buttons on his jacket. Buttons aren’t designed to withstand that much pressure, with one breaking in half and shotting off the jacket like a bullet from a gun, luckily no one was hurt.
Back at the club, a lunch of chicken and chips was provided, along with dessert supplied by Barra of apple crumble and ice cream and short bread biscuits. Although enough chicken was supplied for 2 pieces for each player some though they should have more and Clayton thinking there was plenty only took 1 piece, thus missing out on his second piece. Although questions were asked, the person responsible is yet to be identified.
With access to the club now available names were drawn out for Event Management, with 3 people assigned for each day, Entrée, Mains and Dessert will now be supplied after each game. Names have been added to the Home page.
