Round 3: Lang Lang: Sunday December 5th: Singles

Our pre-Christmas round this season saw MGC make the long trip to Lang Lang Golf Club. In stark contrast to last years outing that saw the troops arrive then turn back due to horrendous weather conditions a fine day was forecast that was sure to be a great day for golf. Also, the news we were allowed back into Strikers for presentations lifted the mood of all players but judging by the scoring and the overall demeanour on the course perhaps some players were too excited to concentrate on golf.

Although scoring in the middle of the pack was tight there were clear winners on the day for both player and NAGA honours. At the top of the pile and with only 4 players passing the 30 point mark, there was a new face donning the jacket for the first time this season and taking home the prizes, with Baby Koala carding a respectable 34 points, beating out Koala and Clayton on 32, followed by Billy A on 30pwa. With both Koala and Clayton again finishing in the top 3, both would carry some form of GOY favouritism as we begin the new year.

The race for NAGA seemed the be confined to group 3 with Tommy H, Girdy and Hubba in the mix, with Sutho coming in the last group to give some hope to the eventual winner. From those involved in the tussle there seemed to be a bit of banter between the players. Tommy talking himself up all day “even though he hadn’t played for 7 months” and Girdy stating “he was prepared to walk off after 14 holes as he felt he had Tommy covered”. In similar circumstances to last year, it would appear Tommy doesn’t do well after a spell and carded a disastrous 16 points, being easily dispatched by Sutho on 19points, followed by Girdy and Hubba on 21.

With the welcome return to Strikers most of the troops headed back for a feed and a few Christmas drinks. With short notice pizzas were the Christmas lunch of choice, although not from our usual pizza supplier Big Chief who was closed Tommy, maybe looking for some form of redemption, stepped up and ordered Dominos, which although not up to usual standards were better than nothing so thanks Tommy.

Wishing all our members and their families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all on the 2nd January at Bayviews.
