Round 1: Centenary Park: Singles – Stableford. Sunday 17th October
After an extended break the 2021-22 season got underway at Centenary Park. With an overcast day forecast and rain the previous couple of nights a wet course was expected and that is what we got. Given the long break and wet conditions scoring was expected to be low, with competition expected to be tight for both NAGA and winner, which proved to be the case with countbacks needed to decide both awards.
After a disastrous 5 off the tee on the 1st and finishing with an out, not much was expected of Clayton, and to all watching firmed in the betting to take out NAGA. This turned out to be far from the case and when all was said and done, he was involved in a 4-way tussle with Koala, Girdy and Red for the coveted Tweed jacket. All 4 players finished with a respectable final score of 34pwa given the conditions, and a countback was required to separate them. With 18pwa on the back 9 Clayton managed to redeem himself and win the Tweed jacket, Carlton Draught beanie and scarf, puma hat and Isuzu umbrella, along with a 2-point cut on his handicap.
The race for NAGA was equally as close, with 1pwa separating the bottom 4 players, with a countback needed to decide the winner. With a total of 22pwa it was Taffy narrowly beating Winker to win the company of Mr Numpty and the twirly for next round.
