Round 8: Rosebud Country Club, May 2nd. 4 ball
The penultimate round of the 2020-21 season saw a full field of 16 take to Rosebud Country Club and what a day it proved to be. Perfect weather and a course in even better shape greeted the players on the first tee. The last team event of the season saw a 4-ball format with a clear divide in the teams capable of winning the day and those playing to avoid the NAGA. A clearly confident Sammy saw his team as clear favourite with a Saturday spruke for the ages, explaining how good his team was and that he’d had a lesson and was hitting the ball brilliant! Would this turn out to be true or over confidence?
Early tipping saw Teams 3 & 4 as clear favourites for the jackets, with Team 3 the pick of the bunch. In form Captain Girdy, after carding 4 over the day before, and Vice-Captain Barra, unbackable favourite for GOTY, with brothers Mitch and Koala taking out the day with a winning score of 57.785. A winning margin of 2.875 separating them from the second placed Team 2 of Deeks, Billy A, Hubba, and Baby Koala, finishing with a score of 60.75. Thanks to our major sponsor Middys, the winners took home a bucket hat, drink bottle, stubby holder, and a couple of balls.
In line with early NAGA predictions Team 1 & 2 battled it out to see who would be visited by Mr Numpty. Team 2 was holding a 1.75 handicap advantage before the day began and it was this margin that proved to be enough to avoid the NAGA. Team 1 of Joe, Ryan, the confident Sammy and Sutho carded a final score of 63.75, with Team 2 of Bob, Red, Winker and Billy Mac doing enough to come in with 62.
With Joe evoking his Captains right to present Mr Numpty to the player most worthy, Sammy has the pleasure of his company for the next month, to which he responded, “How the fuck am I so shite in a team event when I’ve been playing brilliant?” Maybe its over confidence or your new swing!
NTP for the day all received a couple of genuine McClelland Pro V1’s:
4th – Red (shot of the day by all accounts), 7th – Koala, 11th – Mitch, 13th – Bob.
Cuts:
Girdy 8 → 7, Barra 20 → 19, Mitch 24 → 23, Koala 29 → 28
Slides:
Joe 14 → 15, Ryan 18 → 19, Sammy 25 → 26, Sutho 33 → 34
Thanks to event management for organising the day and Bob for scotch sausage rolls with chips for mains and Ryan black forest cake and ice cream for dessert.
Special thanks goes to Deeks for organising Rosebud for us again this year.
The last round is booked for May 23rd at Churchill Park. It would seem the Ann Lee trophy is firmly in Barra’s grasp, but it is at the other end of the table where most interest will be, with multiple players in contention for NAGA of the year honours.
