Round 4: Flinders – Singles
With a heat wave in full effect a sweltering day of 40 degrees was forecast for our trip to Flinders. An early 7.26am tee off would help to escape the worst of the heat but with the temperature climbing during the front 9 holes a long hot back 9 was expected, but a late morning sea breeze managed to keep the temperature down and a pleasant late morning was had by most, although several players felt the heat more than others.
The customary toast to Jack before the first group teed off got all players in the mood for a good day, although for several players this was short lived with many a ball ending up lost in the trees down the right-hand side of the fairway resulting in low scoring for the first hole.
Koala managed to avoid the trees and finished with 2 points on the first which set him up to take out the honours on the day with a final score of 39 points beating out second spot by 3 points, with the consistent scoring Sutho beating out a tiring Barra, who faulted badly on the back 9, via a countback with 36 points.
The return of Alan also saw the retirement of The Dog, who after several years of loyal service was placed on the shelf in favour of the new NAGA prize Mr Numpty. Thanks for the donation Alan and congratulations on avoiding his company on your return.
Competition for Mr Grumpy was a closely contested affair with some very familiar faces in the mix, along with the returning Alan who surely had better outcomes in mind for his return to the tour. With 2 points and a countback separating the bottom 3 it was Clayton taking out the honours and enjoying Mr Numpty’s company for the next couple of weeks with a final score of 23 points, again via countback from Alan with 23 points, and perpetual winner Billy Mac finishing 2 points further back with 25. This is starting to become a habit for Clayton, who surely must stop the rot when we venture to Bayviews next time out.
NTP for the day: 3rd – nil, 9th – nil, 12th – Girdy, 14th – Billy A, 17th – Ryan.
Handicap changes:
Cuts: Koala 31 → 29
Slides: Clayton 39 → 40, Alan 36 → 37, Billy Mac 40 → 41.
Secret 6 for the day was also taken out by Koala with a score of 14, with the $28 winnings donated to Men’s health. Nice touch Koala.
Special thanks go out to Sammy who produced lunch of beef stew even though he had to pull out of the day due to injury and the lack of an available cart, and Girdy who delivered Louise’s much anticipated lemon tart, chocolate mousse and ice cream.
As is usually the case as the drinks continued to flow some outlandish calls were heard, funnily enough from the soon to be family members, with Tommy stating that the twirly was in the car and will never return, new car in the near future Tommy? This was followed up by Barra, who after the teams being drawn wanted to congratulate Tommy on his first jacket. Good luck with that boys!
