Cape Schanck

Round 7: Cape Schank – Andy Mac Memorial Day. March 8th.

CS AMc fish

The second instalment of the Andy Mac Memorial Day saw an extended field of 24 front up to a cool and windy Cape Schanck. After some thoughtful words by Joe and a toast of vodka or whiskey to the great man Andy Mac the golf got underway, with some interesting drives seen from the first tee.

The day wouldn’t get much better for some. After scuffing his drive 20m into the bushes on the 3rd tee Sammy sent his driver the same distance into his cart snapping it in the process, with the words “it slipped out of my hand” being heard to the amusement of those present.

The 10th hole proved to be quite an eventful one on the day. Although sans driver, Sammy giving it his all sent his tee shot from the 9th straight into the group on the 10th fairway. Robust shouts of fore from the tee saw 3 players heading for cover, all except Billy Mac. The ball just missing and landing on the roof of his cart, with the expression “they could have called fore for fuck sake” falling from his mouth.

After turning with a very respectable 21 pwa and filling up with a rather expensive sausage roll, Sutho was rattled after a crow stole said sausage roll and then proceeding to run over the ball washer / bin set up at the 11th tee. From this he couldn’t recover scoring 11 pwa on the back 9.

As is tradition a toast was had on the 14th tee in memory of Andy Mac by all groups.

Once the last group was done and dusted it was Barra who came out on top with a very respectable 39 pwa. I think we can all agree there wasn’t a more deserving winner on the day, with the possible exception of Macca. After an emotional speech and short trip down memory lane Barra was more than happy to collect the vast array of prizes on offer that had been donated or accumulated over the season, with the trophy and Andy Mac fish presented by Macca and Natalie.

In a new tradition for this event 2nd a 3rd place prizes were awarded for the day.

Biggsy, after a front 9 of 24 pwa faded to finish 1 point behind the leader on 38, taking home a sleeve of Pro V1’s, Mitre 10 hat, Titleist cap and Middy’s shirt.

3rd place was taken out by Winker a further 3 points back and collecting a hat and belt pack and Middy’s shirt.

At the other end of the table there were a few familiar faces in the mix for the twirly hat and dog. Tim, coming in for the day nearly took out the prize, but it was Ryan who came out the victor with a score of 20 pwa.

Secret 6 was taken out by Joe with a staggering 15 points, with money won donated to men’s health. Well done Joe.

Handicap changes for the day:

Cuts: Barra 27 → 22 (Rather contentious cut, as the committee had a signed agreement with Barra to take a 9-shot cut, which some of the committee pulled out of said agreement and only cut 5, bit soft by some of the committee on this one)

Slides: Ryan 17 → 18, Titch 29 → 30, Tim 36 → 37, Billy Mac 39 → 40

Lunch was Shepherd’s Pie and chips made by Titch and Jam and Cream donuts with ice cream by Ryan.
