Round 6: Devilbend – Team Event. February 16th
Round 6 saw the troops venture down to Devilbend for the 3rd and final 4-ball of the season. The course was it very good nick, although could have used a trim in places. Confusion before tee-off due to the groups being split between the front and back 9, resulted in some heated discussions which added some spice to the pre-match banter.
With this sorted out the first groups finally teed off in what turned out to be trying conditions. The handicappers had done their job well with 0.875 separating the top 3 teams, but it was the team captained by Girdy and ably assisted by Ryan, Tommy H and Sutho who came out the victors with a score of 56.
The other end of the card was not so close and saw the group lead by Joe, with Hubba, Titch and Clayton finishing with a score of 61.75, a solid 5.75 points behind 3rd place, and were duly awarded the twirlys and dog to take home. It was noted by a long standing member of the club that a couple of old pros in this group may have been involved in a bit of handicap management before the Andy Mac marque event next outing.
Meals for the day were supplied by Clayton, with curry, chips and rice and Billy A with a 4 dessert medley to finish us off.
NTP for the day: 3rd Ryan, 8th Koala, 11th Ryan, 13th Billy A.
Handicap changes:
Slides: Joe 12 → 13, Hubba 22 → 23, Titch 28 → 29, Clayton 36 → 37
Cuts: Girdy 8 → 7, Ryan 18 → 17, Tommy H 29 → 28, Sutho 33 → 32
Hard luck story of the day goes to Tommy H, who after giving it large after Sutho hit a tree proceeded to hit said tree and get his ball stuck, and whilst trying to retrieve his ball managed to get his driver stuck as well. Hard luck Tommy.
Also unlucky was Hubba, who proudly stated at the start of the year he had never worn the twirly hats has now managed to achieve this in the last 2 team event, he now also has the loyal dog as a companion until the next round. Congratulations Hubba.
As the night wore on and the drinks flowed several outlandish comments also started to flow.
“I’ve got player of the year sown up” Joe 5.55pm
“If I win the Andy Mac I’ll take a 9 shot cut to 18” Barra 7.23pm
“If I win the Andy Mac I’ll take a 10 shot cut and put $100 over the bar” Clayton 7.23pm.
Next outing is for the Andy Mac marquee event at Cape Schank. With a full compliment of 24 players booked in this should prove to be a great day.
