Bayviews: 4 Ball Best Ball

29th September 2019.

The 2nd hit out of the season saw the troops headed to the hillside Bayview’s Course on the 29th September for the first team event, this time a 4 ball best ball format. The field was again 16 which meant only 4 teams competing for tweeds and twirly’s. Being the day after the AFL Grand Final a few blurry eyes were on display on the 1st tee. We lost Sutho before tee off due to a family emergency so the last team on the tee, consisting of Bob, Taffy and Tommy H, went around with 3 players. Was this going to give them the edge or be their Achilles heel in the race for the jackets? The MGC were the only ones on the course when we teed off and a cold windy morning decided to add rain to proceedings to test us out. It would be a miss not to mention the pristine condition of the course as the teams battled it out.

It was a close race at the top of the table with 3 teams finishing within 2 shots of each other. Unfortunately, the losing team led by Joe and including Biggsy, Titch & Koala was to finish with a net score of 62.25, some 7 shots back from the winners, and rightly so took out NAGA of the day honors and took home the dog and twirly’s.

At the other end, were the winning team on the day led by Red and including Ryan, Sammy & Clayton, with a net score of 55.375 and a winning margin just over 1 and a half shots to the second placed team.

In the “It’s just not golf section”, a lack of available toilets combined with a hilly climb led one unlucky golfer with a queasy stomach to risk the 18 before relieving himself. Having trusted a fart on the back nine he was hoping the moisture in the shorts was due to sweat but this proved not to be the case when checked back at the club. A quick trip home before lunch and new pair of jocks sorted meant a more comfortable afternoon. Golfer to remain anonymous (hint: current season 2-time winner).

Nearest the pins on the day: 3rd Koala, 6th Hubba, 12th Winker, 15th Red, 17th Tommy H

Handicap changes:

Cuts: Red 15→14, Ryan 18→17, Sammy 25→24, Clayton 35→34.

Slides: Joe 14→15, Titch 27→28, Biggsy 23→24, Koala 33→34.

A solid effort saw Men’s Health collected $60 on the day.

The Lunch was catered by Bob who delivered tasty hamburgers with chips and Hubba who brought it home nicely with profiteroles covered in chocolate sauce, well done lads.

See you at Flinders for the 2nd singles event of the season.
