Depleted numbers opened 2019 at Rossdale in perfect golf weather with little wind and mild temperature. Despite this the perennial NAGA favourite didn’t disappoint with a double shank off the first tee. The usual rumours were circulated during the game about Biggsy being on 2 points after six holes (true) Nick having scored 4 x 4 pointers in the first five (inaccurate) but reports about several players being 20+ at the half-way mark proved to be true.
At the 19th hole the truth surfaced and as an indication of the perfect conditions, and the excellent state of the course, five players carded scores of 40 and above with 9 in the 30’s and 6 in the twenties.
Snappy Tom returning after a spell was forced to retire injured after 10 holes with no penalty-proving the club has a heart after all. JD’s being miffed that his day of 80 off the stick with 4 birdies was not good enough to win the day but at the other end of the scale Clayton’s birdie for 5 on the last ( nearly 20% of his total score) lifted him from NAGA territory were just two incidents from an eventful and enjoyable day.
The scorecard will show that Nick won the day with an unassailable 44.
NTP’s were 1 Southo, 9 JD, 12 Nick and 16 Christoph with Tim getting the privilege of wearing the twirly hat at Mornington next month with a score of 21.
Movers were Nick in by 2 shots, Snappy out by a point (harsh but true) Tim out by 1 to 37 ( nearing the club record of 40 set by the Macster) and the Macster out to 39.
Advancing to the final four of the Knockout Cup are; Joe, Billy A. Bob and Koala.
Lunch was a very well received with a starter of antipasto followed by burger and chips topped off with lashings of cheese cake and ice cream.
There was a three-way tie for the secret six and all the winners donated their prize money to the men’s health fund. Could be that 3 into 40 doesn’t go?
