Format; stableford

Welcome back to all. First game of the season and we’re back at Bayviews down in Rosebud. Weather was fresh but stayed dry. A few late scratchings had us playing with a depleted squad but still all to play for with a stableford format for the first singles event.

The day got off to a bright start with the injured Barra putting in a guest appearance to give the members an almighty morale boost which didn’t go unnoticed and was widely appreciated.

This season the Matchplay tournament was re-badged as the knockout cup with the top 16 scores advancing to round 2. This meant that only 3 would be knocked out that took to the field on Sunday.

For the record, through to the next round will be; Hubba, Clayton, Vic, Sammy, Mitch, Biggsy, Tich, Joe, Christophe, Paul, Koala, Taffy, Baby Koala, Winker, Billy A. and Bob. Having a rest from this comp next round will be; Red, Billy Mac, Ryan, Barra, Deeks, Sutho and Tim.

However, the focus was on the singles event of the day. A few of the social golfers put their rustiness on show off the first tee and it looked as though it was going to be a long day/season for some.

One of those, a certain Billy Armour, fluffed his tee shot, couldn’t recover and duly marked his card with an ‘out’ on the first. This did nothing but spark the big man into action as he turned that around with a 4 pointer on the second. It was plain sailing from there as he went on to record a score of 47 points, 10 points clear of his nearest competitor. A feat never seen in the club since Hughie McAvoy ripped up Mount Martha with an outrageous 54.Chalmer

At the other end of the leaderboard, the cry of ‘same old faces’ rang round the club as the Macster carded a shameful 18 points for his 5 hours of work. This would begin his annual handicap slide towards the magical 40.

As the NAGA dog didn’t put in appearance it wasn’t hard for the website editor to find an all to recent snapshot of the familiar pairing.Macster3Note the obvious ‘lucky attire’

The secret six was comfortably picked up by Billy Armour with 20 points, which was pointed out was more than the Macster’s effort for 3 times the amount of holes played.

Nearest the pins for the day went to Biggsy (3rd), Billy A. (6th), Christophe (11th), Winker (15th) and Koala (17th).

Handicap adjustments were as follows; Billy A. cut from 22 to 20, Billy Mac eased out from 36 to 37, Ryan 21 to 22 and Red 17 to 18.
