Format: Matchplay/stableford

This was to be the 10th and final time we would play for the Jack Jones trophy. Usually the weather was not the best, but this year was almost perfect, dry with a little wind. Jack was finally looking after us. Course was in tip-top condition, there could be no excuses.

The customary toast to Jack took place on the first tee and again after the 6th.

Along with the Jack Jones stableford competition, the 2nd round of the annual Matchplay was also taking place..

The results of this were as follows;

Christophe beat Sammy 4+2

Ryan beat Koala 5+3

Bob beat Tim 5+3

Deeks beat Sutho 6+5

Andy beat Red 5+4

Winker beat Paul 2+1

Joe and Baby Koala byes

The focus was all about the final marquee event. Sutho got himself off to a flyer with 5 points on the first 2 holes; however the excitement was to prove too overwhelming as he could only add a further 8 points to this to lodge a card showing a mere 13 points for his day’s work. This comfortably managed to sew up the ‘naga of the day’ to take home the dog and a twirly hat for the month ahead.

Sutho

It was a very closely fought battle at the top end with both Ryan and Joe scoring well with 39 points apiece. But a back 9 of 21 to Joe against 20 from Ryan meant that Joe would take the honours on a countback.

Joe

The prize bounty seamed to break all the records for this one, as the goods just kept coming. There was a Callaway gps, a golf buggy, numerous polo shirts, including the prestigious Flinders one, numerous golf caps, hats and beanies, bags, golf sets, watches, Rayban sunglasses, gift vouchers, bbq tools, gardening tools, drink bottles, crystal glasses, Rolex watch, t-shirts, pens, golf gloves, stubby holders, dinner voucher plus much more.

Joe prizes

The nearest the pins were to carry an added bonus of a prize allocated to each of the 5 par 3s.

NTPs

These were won by; Taffy (3rd) Jack Jones golf towel, Christophe (9th) Village cinemas experience, Barra (12th) $100, Joe (14th) golf show bag, Red (17th) sleeve pro v1s.

Handicap adjustments would see the winner Joe cut from 14 to 12 and the bottom 4 eased out 1 shot each, Sutho 29 to 30, Tim 36 to 37, Baby Koala (28) 26 to 27, Red 16 to 17.

The ’secret six’ was tied between Deeks and Clayton with 16 points to share the $50 spoils.

Excellent service on the day from the event management team of Koala, Paul and Ryan.

A fantastic day to wind up the final marquee event in the Society’s calendar. Many thanks to all those who have participated/contributed to this event over the past 10 years. It has been a pleasure to help organise such a day.
