Flinders Jack Jones Memorial

Sunday, 30th October, 2016

Format: Matchplay/stableford

This year was the 9th Jack Jones memorial, traditionally played at Flinders.  The conditions were very windy with a threat of rain which really didn’t amount to much. As is custom, the day began with a toast to Jack on the first tee. The day would have the added interest of the second round of the club Matchplay alongside the stableford format for the Jack Jones trophy. The results of the Matchplay were as follows;

·         Biggsy drew Tich (Biggsy won with highest stableford score)

·         Joe beat Sammy 1 up

·         Snappy Tom beat Baby Koala 2 up

·         Barra beat Mitch 2 and 1

·         Billy Armour beat Hubba 3 and 2

·         Taffy bye (Winker no show)

·         Colin beat Billy Mac 5 and 4

The focus of the day was all about the Jack Jones memorial and with the wind blowing scores would be kept lower than in other years. Mind you not as low as Andy Mac was to produce. Managing to lodge a pitiful 17 points for the round of 18. This was more than enough to take home the ‘dog of a day’ trophy. Macca wasn’t to go away empty handed and was presented with a new ‘toilet golf set’ to practice his putting while on the throne. IMG_1016 It was however, a masterful piece of handicap management that would blindside the whole club and see Clayton back in the winner’s circle, to take home the trophy for the 3rd time. After sewing up the NAGA of the Year the previous season to ease his handicap to a more comfortable position ready to make his move, nice darts from the helmet. IMG_1019

Clayton 35 points

The prize pool was again bursting at the seams, golf bag, crystal glasses, St. Andrews towel and cap, tool bag, tools, binoculars, drink bottle, tees, golf gloves, ball retriever, polo shirt, golf balls, kitchen canisters, JB hi-fi voucher, village cinemas voucher, Ray Drummond vouchers, chocolates, sweets, Flinders polo shirt, vodka, t-shirt, cap and much, much more.IMG_1026

Nearest the pins had an added incentive this year with Mitch donating $100 for nearest on the 12th (Aunt Sally), after all 24 players had a go, no one managed to hit the green. Other holes went to Baby Koala (3rd), Red (9th), Koala (14th), Deeks (17th). At the end of the day Clayton would have his handicap cut from 36 to 34, those to slide were Andy Mac 24 to 25, Mitch P. 11 to 12, Sutho 26 to 27 and Gav 32 to 33. The ‘Secret 6’ was won by Deeks with a score of 13 points. Thanks to all who so generously donated to the prize pool. Also to the event management team of the day Barra, Koala and Red. Thanks also to Mum, Cathrine and Rachel for all their help on the day. To everyone involved in keeping this day special.
