(Garry Buick Memorial)
Sunday, 13th March, 2016
Format: stableford
Biggest day of the season would see the club at Eagle Ridge to play in the 10th and final Garry Buick Memorial. Mitch took over toasting duties in Koala’s absence as we raised a glass on the first tee to a man who was once a prominent member and organiser of our golf club.
The day started a bit farcical with the pro-shop messing up the cart bookings, leaving us 2 carts short. However, this was rectified not long after the start.
The weather was perfect and there could be no excuses. Much was at stake on the day, a marquee event meant extra points were on offer for both end of season trophies and the winner’s bounty was to be the biggest in MGC history, all to play for.
Clayton was to have the honour of taking out the last NAGA award for this marquee event, lodging a scorecard consisting of 16 outs with a grand total of a pitiful 6 points for his day’s endeavour. He did however, cite that some of his trouble had stemmed from the movement of the ground all around him each time he addressed his ball, this we were assured had nothing to do with the copious amounts of VB he was pouring down his neck during the round. Or the 3.00 am finish he had the previous night.
But, the big winner on the day was Joe junior who was to pip Vic at the post by a mere one point with a score of 41 points. As promised, the prizes flowed out of the coffers. Hats, club polo, Callaway polo, Middy’s showbag, tool kit, car accessories, vouchers for JB Hi-fi and Dan Murphy’s, glove, crystal glasses, Easter eggs, golfing starter kit, golf balls, Men’s grooming kit, pineapple rings, stubby holder, St. Andrews marker, Gold class cinema tickets, golf GPS to name but a few.
Nearest the pins on the day went to Vic (6th & 11th), Mitch (8th) and Christophe (17th).
As a result of his win Joe junior was cut 2 shots from 24 to 22. The bottom four on the day would all slide out one shot, Clayton 34 to 35, Hubba 21 to 22, Alan 28 to 29 and Tim 36 to 37.
Big thanks to Hubba, Andy and Alan for looking after the day.
A massive thanks also to all those who donated prizes towards such a big day, we certainly gave Garry a right good send off, well done to all for playing a part.
