Flinders

Jack Jones Memorial

Sunday, 1st November, 2015

Format: Stableford

A depleted squad of 18 took to Flinders for the 8th Jack Jones Memorial. Unusual for this day’s event saw the weather stay dry. Although the strangest mist rolled over the course about half way round accompanied by a rapid temperature drop for a while, was like something out of ghost/pirate movie, very eerie.  Also unusual, was a full complement of sober playing staff, Jack would have been chuffed.

Hot topic in the lead up was the rapid improvement in Bob’s golfing development since his generous handicap allocation of 28 at the start of the season.

Traditionally, the day began with a toast to Jack on the first tee, again on the sixth and a few more times in the 19th. Last month’s recipients of the NAGA hats Billy A. and Billy Mac were out to make amends. Both got off to a flyer each scoring 3 points on the first hole, this was the springboard Billy A. needed as went on to score a very tidy 38 points for the day.  However, his partner from last month, Billy Mac could only add a further 17 points to his card for the rest of the day. This proved to be more than enough to go back to back NAGAs for the Macster.

Billy Mac

Billy had the foresight to leave the trophy at home, but he did win a pencil.

At the business end though, the bookies were proved right as Bob would carry on his good form with a score of 42 points, four shots clear of his nearest rivals.

Bob prizes

A mass of prizes were wrenched from the MGC coffers, including wood headcover set, gloves, dozen pro-v1 balls, markers, pen, drink bottle, keyrings, torches, diy kits, hats, polo shirts, tees, lifetime membership for Ray Drummond and much, much more.

Bob

Nearest the pins on the day went to Joe (9th), Christophe (12th 17th), Vic (14th), each receiving a sleeve of MGC prov1s.

Vic, Joe Christophe

The handicapper felt that the standard 2 shot cut for winning would not suffice on this occasion and duly cut Bob from 28 to 21. He also felt the need to extend the maximum handicap from 36 to 38 and duly slid Billy Mac out a further 2 shots. Also to slide was Vic from 11 to 12 and Clayton from 32 to 33.

A massive thanks to the girls who helped out on the day. Also to those who donated prizes, bevvy and food.

To all who came back to the club and stayed on to celebrate this marquee event making it another fantastic day.

Cheers.
