Great to be back first game of the season, with a return to Devilbend after a few years away.
Some new recruits were welcomed in the guise of Red and Taffy with Sammy also recalled back to the Society after his exile to Queensland.
New season saw some new guidelines in place to help the club run a wee bit smoother. New points system towards end of season awards and a new handicap system in place to try and condense the field. Along with the sharing of the ’event management’ of the day, which was successfully started last season.
A couple of late call-offs midweek had the organisers scrambling for subs, thanks to Gav and Nick for filling in.
The day was tinged with sadness as the news came through that Andy Mac’s father-in-law had passed away just the day before, the thoughts and best wishes of the whole club go out to the family.
With Andy unable to play on the day, this would leave Barra’s team a man down and this would prove a bridge too far for the team of 3 and ultimately they would be wearing the twirly hats come the day’s end carding a score of 65.35.
But as we say, winners are grinners and first to don the Tweeds this year would be the team led by Spoon, with Hubba, Tim and Baby Koala with a nett score of 57.75. Mega prizes handed out on day one with each player taking home a new polo shirt, hats and a 3 pack of MGC prov1s.
Nearest the pins on the day went to Winker 3rd, Hubba 8th, Christophe 11th and Red 13th.
The winning team were handicapped one shot each with Spoon going from 12 to 11, Hubba 22 to 21, Baby Koala 28 to 27 and Tim 36 to 35. The losing team each eased out a shot, Barra 18 to 19, Sammy 22 to 23 and Clayton 30 to 31.
