Eagle Ridge

Sunday, 3rd May, 2015

Format: Stableford

The final outing of the season would see us congregate back at Eagle Ridge for the 4th time this season. A few other social clubs were there and this determined a shotgun start.

All of the pre-match talk was on the NAGA of the year, which Joe had sewn up for the past few months, and whether Macster would be able to wrench it from his grasp. Joe was going all out to win the day’s event and/or hope Macster would come last. But Macster was to pull the rabbit out the hat early doors. As he approached the end of the freeway near Rosebud he decided to yank on the handbrake of the Bat mobile pull over and lift the bonnet, citing a breakdown thus withdrawing from the comp. The likes of which had never been seen before.

This left Joe with the only option but to win on the day to avoid NAGA of the year. The club’s lowest handicapper pulled out all the stops and carded a winning score of 37 points. However, fate was yet to play it’s hand and Joe’s son-in-law Hubba was to whip the Tweed jacket off his back with the same 37 points, but winning on a countback. It was also noted, that during the round, Barra had advised Hubba that he was getting ever closer to sealing ‘Dad’s fate’ and maybe he should back off just a touch, but he cared not-a-jot as he only had eyes for the prize bounty that lay ahead, family matters could be sorted out at a later date.

In Macster’s ‘convenient’ absence it was Biggsy who would be wearing the prop hat with a minging score of 18 points.

This took us to the annual awards. First of all was Player of the Year which also went to Hubba who picked up an array of goodies from the MGC coffers. These included Callaway hat, ball retriever, Srixon gift pack, polo shirts, MGC pro-v1 balls, bags of tees, stubby holders to name just a few, along with the POTY trophy.

All the attention quickly shifted to NAGA of the year, and after much protesting it was Joe, the pre-match bookies favourite, who would be taking home the perpetual dish, along with the keepsake turkey and this year’s wildlife ‘Hughesy’ prize which happened to be a yabbie. This, consequently never made it out the club.

Handicappers didn’t waste any time in cutting Hubba 3 shots from 24 to 21. No sliders.

Again, a wonderful year which saw quite a few changes in the structure of the club, as we all look forward to September where we get to do it all again.

Big thanks to all who helped run the events and those who donated prizes throughout the year, cheers.
