FLINDERS – Jack Jones Memorial

Sunday, 15th December, 2013

Format: Stableford

A re-scheduled event for the 6th Jack Jones Memorial down at the picturesque Flinders. A few ‘Jack Jones’ newbies, Joe jnr, Red and Hubba were all welcomed with the pre-match toast by Barra. The toast itself got off to a disastrous start as Clayton smashed the whole bottle of vodka, who then tried to pour the dregs into the shot glasses with shards of glass, no thanks.  However, the ever reliable Joe just happened to have a bottle of Grey Goose down the golf pouch to save the day. With whisky and vodka glasses charged we toasted Jack and we were teeing off on what was a very pleasant Flinders day, weather wise as well as the course which was in fine nick.

The importance of the first marquee event wasn’t enough to entice Macster to the course and therefore failed to appear for the 2nd time of the season. Coupled with the early morning scratching of Tich the field was reduced to 22.

Although the weather was fine, a tad brisk at best, some took the opportunity to up their golf attire to a more comfortable level.

But lessons are on the horizon and the word from Tim is “be afraid.”

In the winner’s circle it would debutante Joe junior who was to record a score of 44 points (including an out and a 1 pointer), this feat off a very dubious handicap of 25 was to stir outrage among the members as he beat his nearest rival by 8 shots. A worthy and popular winner all the same, and with that, unlocks the MGC coffers of prizes, gift vouchers, golf rounds, gloves, hats, towels, polo shirts, footballs, cards, tees, balls and shitloads more.

Nearest the pins went to Hubba (3rd) Red (9th) Joe junior (12th) Barra (14th) Christophe (17th)

The handicappers had a big decision to make as the natives were calling for a new club record of an 8 shot cut, held by Shuggie, to be broken. Alas, this wasn’t to be the case and the young man was slugged 7 shots bringing him in from 25 to 18. Clayton and Hubba were also relieved of 1 shot each after recording 28 and 27 respectively with too many outs on their scorecard, harsh some would say!

Another brilliant day, thanks for all the sponsorship prizes and all those who came along to make it special.
