PAKENHAM

Format: stableford

Season opener down at Pakenham, some things just never change from season to season, late scratchings and a few subs drafted in to even up the numbers. Taffy goes AWOL on the day and the Macster bottles the first singles event of the season by hiding behind the door when Tim went to pick him up, allegedly. Phones Barra at 7.15 am to tell of his unfortunate situation. Barra tells him to drive as there’s still time, but he doesn’t know the way, allegedly. Even though he drove there himself before, fact. Big Redder would be drafted in to make his debut for the MGC.

The course itself was in the poorest condition we’ve played it in many years and this along with a few rusty players resulted in a low scoring group for the day. But the build-up in the weeks leading up to the event proved too much for Red on debut and nerves got the better of him carding a very ordinary 12 points for the day, this with 8 points after 3 holes to try the propeller hat on for size, nice fit!!!!

But, someone has to win and it was Barra who proved to be the best of a bad bunch, managing to shoot 4 over his handicap to record a score of 32 points, which was enough to don the jacket and earn the first 3 points of the season.

Barra

Nearest the pins proved a bit elusive as well, Koala (2nd), Hughesy (8th), Dave (14th) the only holes to be scored on.

The handicappers were quick to move and although no-one played to their handicap Barra was still slugged two shots from 19 to 17, whilst Spoon managed to have himself eased out a shot from 9 to 10.

Good to have the season underway, new track at Sandringham beckons next month.
